WordPress Permalinks

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I didn’t think I could be the only one wondering about how to create decent permalinks for posts.

When I googled around, most of what I found was related to trying to create permalinks for a blog in subdomain, trying to create a really customized permalink, or altering .htaccess to get the permalinks set up.

I thought I was going to have to get all old-school and actually do something with .htaccess. Then I found this link. It has way more information than I need, and some of it is old, but it got me to where I needed to go.

Basically, for my version of WordPress (2.0.5), you login to your account Dashboard, click the “Options” link in the main menu. Once “Options” has been loaded, there’s a submenu. One of the choices is “Permalinks”. You can select a preset style, or make your own.

There’s even enough information there for you to be able to figure out how you’d customize your permalink. Nice.

My biggest problem was not looking more thoroughly at the options in the app itself. In my defense, the the menu and submenu presentation in the Dashboard could be better. Still, I have to say I am impressed with how easy it was–once I knew where to look.

I guess I was the only one wondrering about how to create decent permalinks for posts.

Palindromic Theme

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Well, I think I have found a theme to use instead of Kubrick.

Jillij is a nice looking theme with some interesting features. And, not everybody is using it. But, like Kubrick, there are things that I want to change. That’ll be a project in the not so distant future.

Kubrick Is The Rubric

It’s the default.  It looks great.  Unfortunately, everybody has it.  Including me.

I hope to change the theme sometime in the near future.  In the meantime, how ya like my Kubrick?
